Dr. N. Fred Eaglstein, DO, Medical Director, founded the Dermatology Center in 1986, now known as the Dermatology and Laser Center. After practicing medical and surgical dermatology for many years, he saw a great need for his patients with cosmetic concerns and problems. Consequently, he became very involved in learning the newest and most effective procedures in cosmetic dermatology. Dr. Eaglstein has been performing cosmetic laser procedures since 1992. He served as Courtesy Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Florida, College of Medicine, Family Practice Department in Jacksonville for 12 years. Dr. Eaglstein is a graduate of Emory University and the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He completed a rotating internship at the Public Health Service Hospital in Staten Island, New York. His dermatology residency was done at the University of Tennessee and a dermatology fellowship in immunodermatolgy was done at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of MOHS Surgery, and the Florida Society of Dermatologic Surgeons. He is the Section Chief of Dermatology at Orange Park Medical Center, past president of the Jacksonville Dermatology Society, and current board member and past president of the Florida Society of Dermatologic Surgeons.
Mark A. Cohen, MD MOHS Surgeon, joined our practice in 2006 as a fellowshipped trained MOHS surgeon, specializing in the removal of skin cancers. He is an honors graduate of the University of Wisconsin and received his MD at the University of Kansas, School of Medicine, where he also completed his internship training. He did his dermatology residency at the University of Miami, Department of Dermatology, where he was honored with their Excellence in Dermatologic Surgery Award. He completed a one year Mohs Micrographic Surgery Fellowship in Kansas City, Missouri. He served as a Clinical Instructor for 2 years at the University of Kansas, Department of Dermatology. Dr. Cohen practiced in Hollywood, Florida, for two years, prior to moving back to Kansas City. He has published several articles in medical journals and lectured at medical conferences. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, and the American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Dermatology.
Bruce H. Paley, DO, joined our practice in 1998. Dr. Paley also practices dermatology in St. Augustine and Palatka. He is a graduate of Southern Methodist University and Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship at Westchester General Hospital in Miami, Florida. His dermatology residency was done at the Greater Miami Skin and Laser Center, under the direction of staff dermatologists at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida. Dr. Paley is Board Certified in Dermatology and is a member of the International Society of Dermatology and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. In addition, from 1996 to 2006, Dr. Paley served as Clinical Assistant Professor and Division Chief of Dermatology at the University of Florida, College of Medicine, Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, at which time he decided to pursue additional hours at the Dermatology and Laser Center.
Angela Y. Armstrong, DNP, ARNP, BC, joined our practice in 2004. Angela is a graduate of the University of North Florida and holds a Doctor in Nursing Practice (DNP) doctoral degree. As a Nurse Practitioner at Dermatology and Laser Center, Angela has over 13 years of combined experience in clinical and research dermatology, and she concentrates on medical and surgical dermatology patients. She holds national board certifications in both family and dermatology. Angela serves as a clinical preceptor and guest lecturer for nurse practitioner students at the University of North Florida. Memberships in professional associations include the Jacksonville Society of Dermatology Associates, where she also served as the President (2008-09); American Academy of Nurse Practitioners; the Dermatology Nurse Practitioners Society; Lambda Rho Chapter at Large; and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society. She also serves on the national Dermatology Certification Applicant Appeal Committee, and she is the Chair of The Dermatology NP Certification Exam Test Development Committee.
Laura Swearingen, ARNP, joined the Dermatology and Laser Center in 1997 as support staff for the office and later graduated with her associate in science degree in nursing from Florida Community College of Jacksonville in 2001. During this time, from 2001 to 2010, Laura worked exclusively with Dr. Eaglstein as his Registered Nurse and assisted him with all his medical, cosmetic and surgical dermatology. Laura has dedicated her education and training to become very knowledgeable with laser technology, aesthetic surgery and medical/surgical dermatology. She also worked as a nurse consultant for Candela Laser Corporation training other nurses and physicians about cosmetic laser treatments. She completed her bachelor's degree in nursing from Jacksonville University in 2008 and went on to graduate from Jacksonville University's Master's in Nursing program with a specialization as a Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. Laura is nationally certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Nurses Honor Society and Lambda Rho Chapter-at Large. Laura holds active memberships with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Florida Nurse Practitioner Network and a long time member of the Dermatology Nurses Association. Additionally, Laura is the coordinator for the Jacksonville Society of Dermatology Associates (2012) and is an adjunct faculty for Jacksonville University RN-BSN program guiding and mentoring nursing students in nursing research. Laura has spent her career in dermatology and has a passion for providing patients with the best comprehensive cosmetic, medical and surgical dermatology care.
Bethany Browning, Aesthetician, has been a licensed aesthetician for more than a decade. She has also had extensive post-graduate educational training for Skin Analysis and European Skin Care Techniques. She graduated with honors from the International Dermal Institute. Bethany has been with Dermatology & Laser Center since 2006 and specializes in chemical peels, hydrafacials, customized skin care programs, acne surgery, Photo Dynamic Therapy, microdermabrasion and Antioxidant Firming Treatments. She consults a wide range of patients in pre- and post-operative medical skin care treatments and has extensive knowledge for treating melasma, acne scarring, fine lines, wrinkles and sun-damaged skin. Bethany has a strong commitment for and is passionate about helping patients of all ages to achieve and maintain healthy, beautiful skin.
Natalie Bernhart, PA, joined DLC in February 2010 and has graduated with her undergraduate degree from Georgia Southern University and master's degree in physician assistant studies from South University in Savannah, Ga. Natalie is board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Her background is in dermatology and plastic surgery. She has participated in numerous workshops and certification courses in advanced dermatology surgery, aesthetic medicine, Botox and filler techniques. Natalie holds active memberships with Florida Academy of Physician Assistants, Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants and American Association of Physician Assistants. Natalie enjoys working with our DLC patients and strives to provide the best in all dermatologic and cosmetic needs.
Pam Mathews, CDC, Office Manager, has over thirty years of experience in both dermatology and plastic surgery, which gives her a strong foundation for managing day-to-day operations for our busy dermatology practice. Pam has been Dermatology & Laser Center's practice manager since 1992 and continues to enhance our practice by attending regular continuing education seminars on HIPPA, OSHA, medical billing, coding and office management.
Pam is a certified dermatology coder and a current member of Medical Group Management Association and Association of Dermatology Administrators and Management. Her caring and professional demeanor, along with her strong desire to ensure quality patient care, makes her a vital asset to DLC.
Pam is a Jacksonville native who enjoys spending time with her family, friends and pets.
